Stereotyped and sexist images of women are back in force in the media, and that acts as a serious restraint to equality between the sexes, the Quebec Council on the Status of Women charged in a report released June 12. See:  http://www.csf.gouv.qc.ca/fr/communiques/ The report came a day after the Quebec Legislature unanimously adopted a bill amending the Charter of Rights to include the equality of men and women. “Women are constantly portrayed as sex objects in the media, and that is definitely a setback for feminism,” said Christiane Pelchat, President of the Council. “Women are stereotyped as bimbos, birdbrains, submissive and dedicated to fulfil men’s pleasurers,” she said, denouncing the use of women in suggestive poses to sell everything from beer to cars. – Canwest News Service
